BASSINGBOURNE 1-6 ELSWORTH SPORTS

Elsworth visited Bassingbourne in fine spirits after their superb League performance the week before. Chris Roberts (injured) made way for Graham Tester, Stu Turner and Mark Browne were drafted in for the absent Joe Spencer and Richard De Voy.

The game started at a frantic place and Elsworth took the lead less than 5 mins in, an excellent ball played over the top by Mark Browne found the forward run of stand in Captain Stu Turner, he controlled the ball on his chest and placed his shot beyond the on-rushing keeper. Chances came and went at either end as the visitors tried to get to grips with the changes of personnel forced upon them, the scored remained 0-1 at half-time. The talk in the changing room saw a reshuffle as Mark Browne adopted the Defensive role to allow Turner and the energetic Jack Chandler to push forward. Bassingbourne drew level in the 55th minute when a mix up in the defence allowed the home side's number nine to beat Lewis. The equaliser did nothing but stir Elsworth into life, Brading flicked the ball on and Ollie Barnard smashed the ball in off the post. The goals continued to flow from then on, Jack Chandler scored and Steve Rush was rewarded with a goal that was a small payback for another outstanding displayed that proved once again why he is the best left winger in the League. His lung bursting runs down the left flank and tireless tracking back gave Elsworth the edge. Mark Browne made way for Darren Paine and James Kiff replaced the injured Gary Baillie who had been playing well despite not being fully fit. Elsworth altered their formation to 4-4-2 with James Kiff slotting in at right back and Paine playing alongside Matt Brading who was giving a Selfless display for the team. Paine was working hard to get involved in the action and was unlucky to see his first Competitive goal ruled out for offside. The scoring was complete as Barnard completed his hat-trick, the young forward playing carefree and confident in the last two games.
