ST.IVES RANGERS (1) vs (2) ELSWORTH SPORTS
Elsworth went into the game looking to secure maximum points for the 1st time this season after the previous 2 draws. Matt Brading and Gary Bailey returned to the side in the absence of Club Captain Joe Spencer and fellow midfielder Richard De Voy. The hot weather and uneven pitch made for some frantic opening exchanges with Brading, Barnard and Kiff all going close. With 25 minutes gone the home side took the lead, a speculative free-kick was awarded just outside the Elsworth area and the resulting cross was headed in as the St.Ives forward beat Turner to the ball. Elsworth stirred into life and moments later considered themselves hard done by after Brading was shoved over in the area, despite a chorus of appeals the referee waved play on. Half-Time resulted in Gary Bailey making way for Chris Roberts and Elsworth decide due to the uneven surface they would try to go more direct, it didnt take long before the teams were level. Lewis cleared onto the head of Brading who flicked the ball over his head onto the onrushing Roberts, he lifted the ball over the keeper and followed up his chip with the defenders closing in. Brading's ability to hold off the 2 St.Ives defenders was vital as Elsworth tried time after time to recipricate the move that got them the goal, Barnard, Kiff and Rush all went close. Elsworth were to have the final say, Brading smashed the ball into the net with a well timed scissor kick, some good defending from Matt Brown and Daniel Watkins saw the away side come away with all three points.
